A long day at work...

I arrived at work yesterday just before 8:30am, as usual, and left this morning at 5am. 20.5 hours.

We had a severe hardware failure of one of our servers around 6:30pm, while a software upgrade was being performed. Our external support providers, all thanks and praise to them, came to our office and we went from there. After a few hiccoughs, with an overseas call centre not escalating our call, and then organising the wrong part to be couriered, at around 1am the technician, and the correct part, turned up. After several hours, and some false starts, all was fixed. Profuse thanks to our support and the technician.

I decided it wasn't worth going to sleep as I wanted to go back to the office around 8am, when people start work, and ensure all was fine. I got home around 5:30am, watched an episode of Doctor Who from Series 1, then promptly fell asleep at the closing credits. I awoke at around 8:15am, and got to work around 9:00am to cries of, "Why aren't you in bed?" I left around 10:30am.

What have I done? I watched and enjoyed, on the recommendation of two colleagues, What Dreams May Come: I will admit Robin Williams is not an actor I can generally watch, but he was alright here; though I found Cuba Gooding Jr and Annabella Sciorra far more palatable though. The movie itself?: wow. Such wondrous visual effects and a very interesting storyline with fascinating concepts. I'll have to see if the local library has a copy. I also watched a few episodes from Season 1 of Doctor Who: a wonderful series and such good fun. Sleep has not featured: I'm worried if I do head off before nightfall, I'll wake up at an odd hour and have all manner of trouble getting back into a usual rhythm for a few days. Though my eyes are rather heavy and my brain is not terrible useful currently: I'm hitting far more wrong keys than usual.
