It is 20:20, and I am at work. Consultants are upgrading the disks on our server: the work began at 11:30 today, and since 19:15 the database has been down while files and such are moved about. It could be an extra one hour...it could be an extra three...I wait for the call so I can test[*].
It is interesting hearing the sounds once more of this area, an industrial area, at night. About 10 months ago I blogged on sounds, and feelings; the sounds are still here, the feelings not so much. I had my appraisal today and was rather humbled by what was said by my manager. I am blessed: I am in a job where I not only work with great people but, for some unknown reason, I am respected. That is a great blessing, and a humbling thing to be told.
The trucks continue to drive in and out of the paper recycling plant behind us. The occasional car passes by, its lights visible as I have my blinds fully up [yes, I do have a window seat: no, the view is anything to write home about -- a road, and some trees on the other side: but it is a view]. Interesting to ponder the fact life continues around here, long into the night, after I usually leave.
[*]edit: thankfully, the 1 hour was closer to the mark: all done, and all tested. 21:15, and I'm headed home.
