Rest In Peace

My grandmother passed away tonight. May she rest in peace.

She went soon after hearing [she wasn't fully conscious, being on morphine, but I believe she heard -- or at least knew, in some sense] my dad came safely out of his operation on his knee: I do think she was holding on for him. She was that sort of woman. A great woman. A woman whom life dealt many a harsh blow, including losing her mother at a young age and losing her husband when her youngest [my dad] was in his teens. She worked, worked and worked to pay off her house and support her two boys. Her great joy, after a severe fall several years ago, was the small house in a complex she brought closer to us: she loved that house, and I am thankful that she did have some joy through that house, no, that home, amid the struggles of a bad leg, lung cancer and other diseases, that made her life quite hard in the final year.

She wasn't perfect: she had a temper seldom seen and with a fury that one thought not possible. But she was one of the most loving and generous people I have ever met: if ever someone fulfilled the role of the sheep in Matthew 25:31-46 it was her.

The funeral will be either Tuesday or Wednesday next week. I am going to skip my trip to San Jose and go straight to London after the funeral. Prayers appreciated, particularly for my dad and uncle, and my mum, as they cope, mourn, and deal with all the things that need to be dealt with.

I love you nan. I wish I had've said it more, but I know you know -- and I know you know and hear me now.
