San Jose and London

My friend's place [on Communications Hill for any local persons] is huge. His "my little townhouse" comment was like comparing a grandfather clock to Big Ben!

I did have a wonderful time. It was great to see him again, even though he'd been in Oz but a few weeks before. It was also great to catch-up with a number of friends of his, and now mine too, that I've met on previous visits. Lots of chatting, lots of laughing, and lots of fun.

I got to eat at what is one of my favourite restaurants, Chelokababi [Persian cuisine] -- and enjoyed greatly my first taste of the Persian dessert Faloodeh Shirazi: iced desert, prepared with tiny noodles, rose water and syrup. A friend took the day off work and took me down to Los Gatos [I can't imagine a suburb called "The Cats", but it does work in Spanish! :)] where we walked, talked and had some wonderful coffee; took me to a Catholic church and bookstore, Our Lady of Peace -- check out the statue!, where I bought three books; and for breakfast and dinner took me to his parents' place where I was fed, fed and fed some more Assyrian-style.

Two days -- far too short, but two fun days.

I'm now in London: last visited, and first visited, by me in 1998. I've had Champagne Afternoon Tea at the Savoy; met friends of my friends at a pub lunch; had a wonderful dinner [roast chicken, sausages and vegies -- and my first taste of parsnips; washed down with 2000 Vintage Moët] at the home with the friends I'm staying with, with another friend from Australia and her fiancé -- first time I've met him: a lovely chap; walked from where I'm staying [Brook Green / West Kensington] to Kensington High Street and, after buying food for the dinner, fighting at the checkout with my friends over who would pay. :)

Today sees a Ship Meet tonight; during the day I'm planning on catching a boat from Westminster down to the Royal Observatory, taking in the view from the London Eye, heading to the British Library, and a few walks around the place.

Holidays are fun.
