Dus Kahaniyaan: ten very interesting short stories, ranging from joy and love to pain and death. A roller-coaster of a ride, and for me a mixed-bag, but an enjoyable night out at the movies. I am very happy that two of the local cinemas, both major chains, are screening regular Indian movies. I can only hope it translates to more films from other countries. I am a member of Club Dendy [Dendy is an art-house cinema chain], so I do make the occasional trip to the city to see foreign or "arty" movies, but it is nice to be able to see foreign films closer to home.

Of the ten, Lovedale, Sex on the Beach, Gubbare and Rice Plate [which, if I recall followed each other in sequence] were my favourites. Lovedale asked the question do you believe in fate and destiny; Sex on the Beach concerned Death in a very interesting manner, asking about what may lie behind a dream or supposed perfection; Gubarre was a poignant story on the important things in life told after a minor argument; and Rice Plate is an enjoyable comedy, though with a serious message on racial and cultural relations. All recommended should the films, or DVD, come to a cinema or store near you.

Wednesday night we saw the 2006(? - I believe) Christmas Special of the wondrous Vicar of Dibley. The second-part will screen next week. From poor stuttering Jim's loss in Deal or No Deal to Alice's belief she is the descendant of Jesus and Mary Magdalene to the painting class to the Reverend Geraldine's love-life troubles [and that puddle scene!], I was laughing for the full hour. A must see is, courtesy of YouTube, It Should Have Been Me.
