Photos from a very brief time in Swansea here.
Swansea is probably the place I spent the shortest amount of time in: but also one of the places in which I had the most fun I have had for quite some time. The reason? The wonderful, wonderful Wibmeet. The Swansea Wibmeets are well-known throughout the Wibsite, and I can see why. They all know each other and know each other very well. Singing Semele [it was so strange meeting a fellow Aussie in Wales!] and I both commented -- at the coffee shop the next morning -- what a great meet, and a great group, it was, and how we felt part of one big friendly group that evening. Thank you particularly to Rhys and Lemly for opening their home -- and thanks to all for making it a truly wonderful evening. I do not have a group shot, unfortunately, but here are some photos from the evening.
Lemly must also be congratulated on her fine dessert-making skills -- and for introducing me to the delight that is Banoffee Pie [right]; my work colleagues' mouths dropped when they saw this photo! As well, we had a Mars Bar cake and two other delicious desserts which my failing memory has unfortunately forgot.
Swansea has a lovely Maritime Quarter which you can wander around day or night, taking in old and modern buildings. Nearby was the Winter Wonderland where I rode a ferris wheel for amazing views of the city: even at night.
The High Street was surprisingly busy, but I found that in most towns I visited. Once you moved away, the number of people dropped off rather dramatically.
The ruins of Swansea Castle appeared out of nowhere as I wandered around, right next to a paved open area with a fountain. I also managed to find a most fantastic milkshake shop -- Mad Cow. Despite the relatively cold temperature I was not going to be stopped: perhaps you can see why when you see the flavours available. Please, Mad Cow owners, please open a shop here in Sydney soon.
Again, as I have said for every other place: I do need to get back! Particularly as I had such a short time there and didn't get to see places such as Gower Bay. Thank you to all the Swansea Wibloggers, and Semele, for a truly wonderful evening.
