Beowulf

The worst movie I have seen this year. And possibly, probably, the worst movie I have seen for quite some time.

I saw Beowulf in 3D [and gosh, the glasses have come a long way from the cardboard ones with cellophane!] on Saturday night with some friends. I knew the reviews weren't good: I didn't realise a movie could be so bad.

To be fair, the animation was superbly done, the 3D effects were great and the storyline interesting. Unfortunately, the dialogue was so appalling it was impossible to get past it. And I am talking appalling. Granted, there were some humorous lines, but they were few and far between. And it made for a truly pathetic film. Ray Winstone's [Beowulf] voice also grated on me, but that is rather subjective.

An amusing aside is the lengths they went to to obscure Beowulf's privates when he strips down to fight Grendel. Odd: but at least it, unintentionally I suppose, provided some humour for us.

On the topic of appalling things, our Voice over IP provider, IntraPower, has the worst hold music I have ever heard: think trance music. At extreme volume levels. I have my telephone on the lowest volume and it is still pounding the eardrums. Not the best music in my view for a 9am support call.
