My friend Grace arrived back from the US last week, for a visit home and for the wedding of the two dear friends whose wedding reception I shall be MC-ing at. I caught up with her for dinner last night at the wonderfully delicious Candelori's. Great food: and even greater conversation. It was great to see her again and simply catch up over a meal [I had cannelloni filled with chicken breast, mozzarella with tomato & basil and a vanilla bean crème brûlée]. I was rather surprised when she handed me the book The Church of the East: Apostolic & Orthodox, written by my friend Ramsin's uncle Bishop Bawai Soro, whom I have had the pleasure of meeting several times. And I was in for a further surprise, he had signed the front page:
What a blessing.
I began reading it this evening, at the Mars Hill Cafe, while waiting for the friends who are to be married and a mutual friend, and her cuter-than-cute baby daughter [another is due next week!] to arrive as I was meeting them for dinner -- eating out two nights in a row: how extravagant! I am really looking forward to continuing to read it and to discover more about this historic Church.
A very nice dinner was had at The Bite [I went for a pizza of tiger prawns and scallops with bocconcini, red onions, snow-peas, semi-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and basil - I imagine the original Italian pizza-makers are rolling in their graves at that concoction: though it was superb] and then we went to have dessert a few doors down the raod at Nut n Fancy where I had a scoop each of baccio and Ferrero Rocher gelato: more yum. Wonderful to see friends again and wonderful simply to chat away. And a meal is truly such a wondrous thing to share with friends.
