Canoeing on the Woronora

How I spent the afternoon of Australia Day, with two friends. A lovely day, and a very beautiful spot of Sydney for canoeing.

On the topic of Australia Day, I do not know if it is just me, but I seem to be seeing far more flags and clothing with our flag on it than I have previously. Not necessarily a bad thing, but given recent history [such as the 2005 Cronulla Riots], I do wonder at the display by some. That said, a simple display of the flag is just that: perhaps I am reading too much into it all.

You can see a shot from Google Maps below; we started off from a boat shed [marked with an A] just above where Prince Edward Park road crosses the little tributary; we headed up and to the left of screen, and then did a u-turn and went right, under the pedestrian bridges and up a reasonable way [well, it seemed a long canoe!] towards the Menai and Woronora bridges. A few motorised vehicles went past us, rocking and rolling us a bit -- all part of the fun. We then came back, past the boat shed, under the Prince Edward Park road bridge and along the narrow, and shallow [we did run aground several times], tributary. A very pleasant afternoon.
