Two movies I saw on the weekend: and 3:10 to Yuma for only $6- [less than half the usual admission price at the larger cinema chains] by going to the Dumaresq Street Cinemas.
I loved Sweeney Todd: even if I was already wincing during the introduction which was blood trailing a path along various scenes. The blood-splattering cutting-the-throat scenes also had me sliding into my chair. Yet the acting was marvellous [I do like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter], and the songs side-splitting, and while it a rather gruesome story, it is a lot of fun.
3:10 to Yuma was better than I expected: I am not a big fan of Westerns, but the presence of Christian Bale and Russell Crowe had me interested -- and they did play great roles. As did Ben Foster as Crowe's loyal, extremely loyal, companion. The story in particular was a fascinating study into Bale and Crowe's characters: in particular what drives them and what their history is. Truly fascinating.
