Work Picnic Day

Held yesterday [Saturday] at Jamberoo Action Park. I took Skye and nanny and poppy came along too.

The weather was wonderful: a very warm day and clear blue skies -- summer seems to have, in late February, finally arrived. And, as always occurs on sunny days, despite applying sunscreen [and even green zinc on my nose as Skye wanted me to as she had it on!] I am rather burnt. The aloe vera plant in the backyard has been butchered to soothe my skin.

There are a number of rides at Jamberoo, and plenty of room to have a picnic or just spend the day lazing around. I noticed, while heading up on the chairlift to come down on the mountain toboggan [I was on a double: Skye wanted me to take her -- love being an uncle!], that a number of visitors even bought tents to set up! Several huts had been booked for us by the company, so me and my family set up with a number of others from our office in a hut. It was great to meet the kids of many of my colleagues, as well their partners [and parents] whom I had not met at Christmas parties. A very nice BBQ lunch was provided as well by the company, as well as the entrance fees. A very nice day out, and, while no company is perfect [and from my previous posts you will know of my frustrations], I feel lucky to work for a company that puts things like this on for its employees.

As well as the toboggan, we took Skye down to Billabong Beach, Outback Bay and she came on a Rapid River raft with me. Having been previously since the opening of the Taipan [a raft waterslide in darkness] and having been taken on it, Skye was a bit scared and did not want to go on it -- I went up myself and got to ride down with 5 lovely young ladies who screamed and yelled all the way down: it was good fun. Finally, nanny and poppy took Skye on the slide.

Skye had a great time, though was a bit shy around my colleagues and their families -- all these new people. She was still going at 4pm: I thought she would be tired by then, us having arrived just before 10:30am. We left around 4:30pm, and she was soon asleep in the car -- as were nanny and poppy. A quiet drive home for me, unlike the trip down where Skye was constantly talking about going to Jamberoo and what she could see outside the window [everything from trees to cows to horses to the sky].
