I haven't laughed so much for quite some time: Odette Toulemonde is a great movie.
The wondrous Catherine Frot plays Odette, a woman with a rather unhappy life, but who greatly enjoys the books of author Balthazar Balsan, who is looked down by colleagues as writing for the unedicated and lower-classes. Through a series of events, Balthazar turns up at Odette's place to escape his life, and some interesting, and thoroughly entertaining, scenes transpire. Yes, it is completely crazy and yes, at times wonderfully silly, but that was its charm. Odette, filled with joy, floating into the air; Odette, filled with a song, dancing around the room; Odette, despite her own struggles, bringing joy into others' lives. And a great support cast, including an odd character named Jesus who pops up now and again.
Thoroughly entertaining, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments [the entire cinema was laughing at times] and thoroughly recommended.
