My poor brain got confused and I thought the Sydney Arab Film Festival was in May -- it was last weekend, so I missed it. :bangs head:

This, and next weekend, I am off to the Festival of German Films. I have bought a 5-film pass and will see Reclaim Your Brain, The Edge of Heaven, Nothing but Ghosts, And Along Came Tourists and Runaway Horse. I heard a great review of The Edge of Heaven on At The Movies Wednesday, and am looking forward to watching it.

I watched Au revoir, les enfants last night: wow. As it ended the tears were rolling down my face and my mouth was open in stunned silence. A truly moving fiilm that I know will stay with me for a long time to come. The themes of friendship, courage, identity, among many others, are brought out wonderfully, and wonderful also is the acting, particularly that of the two young main characters. Questions such as those of "Who am I?" and "What do I believe?" came to me, and remain with me. A slow-moving film at times, but I didn't think too slow: it seemed just right. And the film can be seen as particularly poignant as it is based on childood events of director Louis Malle. I shall be looking for other films of his.
