Rabbit Without Ears, the final film I saw as part of the German Film Festival. I am not usually one for romantic comedies, but I greatly, greatly, enjoyed this film.
A short film, Diary of a perfect love [Tagebuch einer perfekten Liebe], preceeded the film: another very enjoyable, and quirky, short film.
Rabbit Without Ears concerns a tabloid journalist [Ludo] who, after dropping in [literally!] on a celebrity party, is sentenced to 300 hours of community service at a day-care centre. There he meets the owner, who turns out to be a woman [Anna] he teased mercilessly when they were at school together. She still may be awkward, but she is ready to get some revenge on Ludo. Plenty of laugh-out loud moments and a truly enjoyable film: if it gets a general cinema release, or you get the chance to see it at a German Film Festival, I can heartily recommend it.
My favourite film of this festival, however, was Nichts als Gespenster. I thought it a very interesting exploration into many issues, particularly the troubles with communication with those nearest to you. It was also a wonderfully shot and acted film. When it comes out on DVD I will be buying it.
