Tipping Help

In Oz, tipping isn't that big...except perhaps in restaurants. [Or perhaps I am just stingy. :) ] We tend to pay a bit more to people in service industries than I believe people are paid in the US [and we don't assume tips as part of their wage], so it does not feature in our day-to-day life.

So I will need some help from Americans, Canadians, and any other informed persons:

• Where do I tip? Hotels, tours, restaurants, buses?


• How much do I tip?


• Is there anyone I shouldn't tip?


• I seem to recall a friend in Canada telling me we needed to leave money for the 'housekeeper' in hotels/motels when I travelled there in 2001; again, how much?
