WOW! We certainly covered a lot of Sydney yesterday!
From the Aquarium to the Powerhouse Museum to Hyde Park to St Mary's Cathedral; then walking the path past the Art Gallery to Mrs Macquarie's Chair to the Opera House [where we took the wonderful tour -- the Concert Hall is breathtaking: being a cultural philistine I've never been there (though I've seen a few plays in the Playhouse)] and finally to the Rocks. I was beat! And I slept quite well last night. Today we are off to the zoo, and then who knows what other wonders we shall see?
More fun with my German ensued. I directly translated "I am full" to "Ich bin voll" -- and promptly told everyone I was drunk! I was first alerted to the dangers of word-for-word translation when, on a stinking hot day, I said "Ich bin heiß", believing I was saying "I am hot". The look on my teacher's face, and her subsequent laugh, told me I didn't. What I'd actually said was "I am on heat"!!! Ah, those moments make the struggles of learning a new language all worthwhile! ;-)
