I led my first Conversation Class with seven International Students yesterday: and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I hope they gained as much enjoyment as I did, and managed to learn a bit on the way also.
We talked about ourselves, about forming friendships in Australia, and about the cultural differences between the various countries and provinces they came from and Australia (the students came from such varied locations as Japan, Vietnam, Canton province in China, Shanghai and Outer Mongolia!) It was a great learning experience for me in not only teaching, but in learning about different cultures and the way things are done overseas.
I am completely in awe and utterly impressed by their (and all International Students) commitment to learning English and their actual level of English. If I were learning Vietnamese or Mandarin, I doubt I'd be anywhere near their level in English.
I cannot wait until the next session next Wednesday!
