I've returned from the snowfields with all limbs accounted for.
There were thirteen of us, and eleven of us got on well and had a great time. Two friends of a friend of mine were not very talkative and kept to themselves (we didn't even get so much as a "Good Morning" despite the fact we were in the same cabin!), and then decided to leave Saturday night (we left Sunday evening). My friend said they are usually like that so I assume they prefer smaller groups.
Saturday was a rather miserable day with a lot of wind and some very hard snow pelting us all in the face. Only one T-Bar was working at Mt Blue Cow for most of the morning, but conditions improved a bit in the afternoon -- and then returned to blizzard conditions as soon as we stepped outside of the bistro! I comforted myself with glühwein [hot red wine, cinnamon and cloves] until conditions improved.
Sunday was the exact opposite: a beautiful, sunny day with great skiing. I braved some blue runs and practised my turning, trying to remember the advice an instructor gave me last year. I think I followed it. We all went off to various parts of Mt Perisher, according to our abilities, and had a grand old time. Skiing is great fun, and it's even better when you are enjoying yourself with friends.
I had some of the best pizza I've ever tasted on Saturday night, washed down with a variety of alcoholic beverages and some sparkling apple juice -- I absolutely adore sparkling apple juice. Sunday night we stopped at a cafe in the town of Queanbeyan on the way back to Sydney and had the largest and delicious servings I have ever seen!
It was all over so quick. Now I'm back at work (and struggling to stay awake). I hope I can get down again soon.
