Last night I attended a friend's wonderful Housewarming and Birthday Party in The Shire. For those fortunate enough to live outside of the horridly expensive city I call home, The Shire is labelled God's own country by its inhabitants. It is a marvellous place with everything one could ever want within a stone's throw [not that anyone in The Shire would throw stones!] and I felt greatly blessed to be able to visit it.
For your further erudition, here is a joke I was told which gives you an idea of The Shire's status:
A person wanted to call God so he spoke to his priest. "That'll be $30.00", the priest said. The man thought this was too expensive and went away. The next day, he was speaking to a friend about the cost of calling God -- and the friend replied he had only paid 10 cents. "10 cents!", exclaimed the man who had been told it was $30. "How come it was only 10 cents!" "I live in 'The Shire'", came the reply. "It is only a local call."
;-)
The party was a wondrous affair, with a bounty of food that would satisfy anyone! The host's "piece de résistance", tiramisu, went down a treat -- as did everything else. The conversation flowed as freely as the drinks did.
I imagine life in The Shire is always like this -- they are especially blessed.
Happy Birthday person-out-there! And thanks for a wonderful evening.
