We [me, dad and my sister] threw a surprise 55th birthday party for my mum yesterday: and she was surprised! And extremely emotional.
My sister had her Baby Shower at 2pm, and at 5pm the women there [I was hiding away at the local cinema: I saw The Village -- not bad, but not terribly memorable either (at least for me)] yelled "Surprise!" My mum was still overcome with emotion when I got home! It was wonderful to be able to organise a party to say Thanks to mum for all that she has done for us: she truly has been a rock of refuge for me (and many others) in stormy times.
On the topic of stormy times, I'm having one at the moment. Self-esteem is at a low point, and I'm finding motivation a bit hard to come by. I know it will pass, and I know dark times are often the times where you learn the most, but it is still annoying, painful...and even frustrating! Bleh!
