Holidays are over and it was back to uni Tuesday night. Two entertaining lectures: the second one particularly so because of a certain list. This list contained forty or so roles defining teachers from a variety of TESOL literature. Some of the ones I can remember included:
The first conversation class with the new students was today. I had a student from Peru, a student from Taiwan and two students from Korea. All female. I was definitely the thorn between the roses. We discussed various differences between our cultures. By far the most interesting difference for me was that in Primary School in Korea, students are referred to as numbers rather than with their name! These numbers are allocated each year, and it is up to the teacher how they are distributed: by height, by birthdate, by seat position... Those in my class could still remember their numbers. I think I'll stick to names.
