Free from the Internet

I no longer have internet access at home [for three weeks].

In some sense it is a relief only being able to access the internet and e-mail from work. For some unknown reason I feel the constant need to log on and check what is happening both in the CyberWorld and in the Real World [through online newspapers, news services...] I am afraid of being left behind.

Why, though? I have no idea. We live in such an information-saturated society and perhaps I've bought into it. I love information, especially useless information ;-), and I think I've let this overtake me. Knowing stuff isn't bad in itself (is it?) -- but being in a mad rush to ensure I'm "up-to-date" cannot be too healthly all the time either.

I think this time will be useful. As well as spending more time with family [which I have tried to do ever since the Big Depression Episode last year -- family are great: thanks be to God] I hope I can spend more time with God: in reading, in prayer, in thought... Bring my focus back to the bigger things.

[And given I have my final two uni assignments due soon, not having the attraction of the internet should help with them too! ;-) ]
