An aside first: I had to work today [system upgrade], and I must say, although it was an enjoyable day [as far as working on a Sunday can be enjoyable!], I feel my non-attendance at Matins and Divine Liturgy sharply. May next weekend approach quickly!

The Nativity Fast begins tomorrow [Monday] in Orthodoxy. Fasting is something I have no great knowledge of (in terms of how to? why? etc.), but thanks be to God for my priest who lent me The Lenten Triodion, which contains a section on the history, meaning and use of the Lenten Fast. I am learning a great deal, and I've only read the first few pages!

A good article on The Nativity Fast can be found at Monachos here. As someone who really has no idea about fasting, I am not doing the full fast but I will try and put into practice what I read and what my priest tells me in our fortnightly discussions. Whatever way we prepare ourselves for Christmas, amid all the hustle and bustle that takes place at this time, may we be ever preparing ourselves to approach Christmas Day, and may we, little by little, begin to understand what we can about the great mystery of God Almighty taking human flesh and becoming Man.

May God bless you all.
