I, all praise to God, received a 70% for my final assessment for the Socio-cultural Aspects Of Language Teaching subject. I am very happy. The lecturer wrote a variety of nice comments throughout ("you've used your creativity well"; "I enjoyed your speculations"; "excellent response linking opinion and theory"), which have given me a boost. I was quite nervous (and still am!) about the shift to language teaching; coming from an IT background, linguistics and language teaching is a major shift.

I chose the topic of Lifesaving for the conversation class today: unfortunately, not many people were interested in the beach. So, after some discussion of beach safety [the flags, rips, signalling you need help] we moved on to sports and, everyone's favourite topic, food. On the topic of sport I was shocked to discover that many golf courses in China charge ~$30,000 per annum for membership! $30,000! Certainly not the average person's game as it is here.
