Jack wrote about a surprise call from a friend on her blog several days ago. I received a similar call Saturday. I had not seen J since her wedding in March! We went and had a delicious Vietnamese lunch with another mutual friend: it was great to catch up.
I knew this person through church for a few years, but we were never close. This changed when she moved to the same suburb as me for work. We then met up for lunch, drove to/from work together, and got to know each other much better. And we became firm and close friends. Thanks be to God.
Saturday night was the office Christmas Party: held at the magnificent Taronga Park Function Centre (for those not from Sydney, Taronga is our zoo -- with wondrous views of the city and harbour. The animals have the best views of all of us! ;-)) The food was great, as were the drinks, the conversation...and the dancing. I cannot deny I am a sucker for the dancefloor (despite being the most un-coordinated person on the planet) : and as well as bopping around I slid across the dancefloor into the arms of a waiting lass once or twice (or thrice). It was good fun. My managers now realise I'm quite quiet and reserved (comparably) at work. ;-)
The feast at church today was the celebration (among other saints) of The Holy Forefathers, where, as we approach Christmas, we remembered the men and women of the Old Testament. A worthwhile reflection and meditation.
After church I went to meet several friends to celebrate a friend's birthday (Happy Birthday A!) We had a quick bite to eat and then watched Après vous (After You). It was mildly entertaining, and had a few laugh-very-much-out-loud moments, but I'd not go out of my way to see it again -- unlike the joyful Amélie, the farcical Le Placard (The Closet) and the heart-warming and restore-your-faith-in-humanity Être et avoir (To be and to have) [all wondrous French movies I've seen lately, and seen again...and again...]
Now I'm back at home and ready for a sleep...
