How the mighty have fallen...

[Mighty in my own mind. :)]

80% in my first assignment for Systems Quality Management [worth 35% of the subject mark]. 80%. Bah. A drop of 20% from my first assignment in Advanced Project Management. The perfectionist in me is not happy: particularly as I did miss a key area in one section so the loss of some potentially easy marks is my fault. Though I think there was an issue with the scope and perhaps marking. It was stated this was to be a 1,000 word maximum management report, so there was not a lot of space to cover all the areas. However, when the assessor came to speak to us about our assignments he talked about people who did very well writing 7 to 8 pages. I queried this, given the 1,000 word limit [quadruple-spaced perhaps?], to which he responded, "Was there a limit written in the assignment?" Yes, there was. Unfortunately, this does not fill me with confidence. However, there are parts I missed and I accept that: I just find it a bit odd that the 1,000 word limit seemed to be forgotten when it comes to marking. Though as someone who rambles and rambles, I know I have to learn to be brief.

Anyway, being serious: 80% is pretty darn good.

I handed in my second assignment, a research assignment last night as well [worth 50% of the subject mark; the other 15% is based on contribution to discussions -- I've definitely contributed quantity to discussions, not sure about the quality!] I changed the topic slightly yesterday, "Project Management and Software Quality: The Need for Social as well as Technical Considerations to Ensure Quality in Software Projects". The 4,850 words also went up to around 5,200 words.

One more assignment left, this one for Advanced Project Management -- it is due next Tuesday. I have chosen the area of Project Management and Culture and my statement is that "Culturally-diverse teams do not of themselves guarantee success in multi-country projects." I want to, again, look at the social factors of projects, particularly those in the IT industry, and in this research paper I want to take a deeper focus into culture and how people from different cultures may work better together. I am taking a half-day off work tomorrow to do some final research and I plan to finish it up over the weekend: though I imagine Monday evening may be used also.
