Despite a passing shower just before 8pm, the Symphony in the Domain remained dry.
The Symphony in the Domain [the Domain is a large park area in the middle of Sydney] is one of the free events of the annual Sydney Festival. The programme is performed by the Sydney Symphony, so getting to hear it for free is quite a treat! I generally don't go to many Sydney Festival events, but I do enjoy Symphony in the Domain and try and get there once every few years.
A friend and I got together a picnic dinner [wine, cheese, crackers, fruit...] and, after finding somewhere to sit (these events are rather packed!), settled down to enjoy the show. And, as always, a great show with a grat variety of pieces, culminating with the 1812 Overture and fireworks shooting off from a nearby building. As an extra bonus, they played the theme from Star Wars afterwards which was very enjoyable to hear. A great evening.
Music of a different variety this morning: an intense thunderstorm passing through Sydney. Lightning seems to be flashing every few seconds and the cracks and peals of thunder continually fill the air. It was interesting to wake up to! My poor dog is a bit scared though.
