Memory Eternal!

The grandmother of our priest passed away this morning. Please pray for Fr John and his family.

May her memory be eternal!

A subdued prolonged Matins and Typika [a service when a priest is not present in order to celebrate the Divine Liturgy] service today therefore, though still joyful and filled with hope. It was wondrous to celebrate a longer Matins and to hear more Psalms and more hymns.

Today is the Synaxis of the Three Hierarchs, Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, where we remember three of the great teachers of the church:

Icon - St EphraimLet us who love their words gather together
and honour with hymns the three great torch-bearers of the triune Godhead:
Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom.
These men have enlightened the world with the rays of their divine doctrines.
They are sweetly-flowing rivers of wisdom
filling all creation with springs of heavenly knowledge.
Ceaselessly they intercede for us before the Holy Trinity!

O Lord, You have taken up to eternal rest
and to the enjoyment of Your blessings
the divinely-inspired heralds, the greatest of Your teachers,
for You have accepted their labours and deaths as a sweet-smelling sacrifice,
for You alone are glorified in Your saints!

After church I had Fish 'n Chips for lunch with a friend, and then went to see my niece and sister in hospital. My sister is doing well, albeit tired, and my niece is looking more and more beautiful each day [can you tell I'm a proud uncle?]

A minor mishap after mowing my grandmother's lawn. For some reason my foot got stuck on the accelerator pedal when I had the car in reverse and I mounted a small concrete wall -- with the help of nan's garbage bin which I crushed in the process -- the car coming to rest at a 45 degree angle! I was rather shaken, and a neighbour came and helped -- God bless him. I was in a state. No injuries, and only minor damage to the car (which is now at a Smash Repair place). Thanks be to the Lord for watching over me, and providing His help in the form of the neighbour.
