For I'm on my way!
In just over five hours I shall be on a plane for Perth. It takes five hours to fly to Perth from Sydney, and -- due to the marvellous spinning of this sphere we call Earth -- it only takes four hours to get back!
My first stop, after having coffee with someone I know virtually from Ship of Fools, is the Benedictine monastery of New Norcia. New Norcia has always fascinated me, being Australia's only monastic town. It was founded by two Spanish Benedictines in 1846. I will, unless I annoy the monks too much and get kicked out early, be there until Tuesday. I am greatly looking forward to some time of relaxation and reflection -- my bag will be [when I get around to packing! I should start I suppose] full of books, and I am looking forward to participating in the services at the monastery.
I then make my way back to Perth, and set off for two days in the port of Bunbury, where I hope to swim with some dolphins, and rest and relax further.
On Thursday I return to Perth to see some of the sights I missed on my last visit [2001], as well as getting together with some people from Ship of Fools for a dinner Friday. And then it is back home!
For those of a liturgical bent who follow a calendar, may the beginning of Lent next week (if you're on the Western calendar...Orthodox Easter isn't until May 1!) be the beginning of a journey of reflection.
And to all, God bless and have a great week. I shall miss reading your blogs and your comments.
