Icon - Publican and the PhariseeLet us flee from the pride of the Pharisee!
And learn humility from the Publican's tears!
Let us cry to our Saviour,
have mercy on us,
only merciful One!

The Lenten Triodion started today, with the Sunday of the Publican and Pharisee. This Gospel reading is used to remind us of the importance of humility. Three weeks until Great Lent begins (in the Orthodox calendar; I know those on the Western calendar have already started).

It was wonderful to return to my parish this week and people even said they missed me! How nice -- I truly do feel loved in that parish.

There was also a Memorial Service as part of the Divine Liturgy for a departed family member of some of our parishioners. It is a moving service, and as we all partook of eating the Kolyva [boiled wheat] afterwards, it did all feel as if we were one family and that we did remember the departed servant of God well.
