First Classroom Observation

I'm feeling a bit more at ease now.

I observed the class from 11:30 to 13:00, and the time flew by. The teacher was reviewing and wrapping up the topic of Transport and had the students spelling, writing and speaking about transport. The students were very eager to participate and appear to enjoy the class. It was great to see this, and great to see some of the activities that can be used to enable students to learn themselves -- especially for students at Level 0. As the teacher said to me, three months ago these students came in with zero English, and now you can see them reading and talking and interacting with each other. This is why I'm moving into TESOL(*): I'd dearly love to be able to help people from overseas get a start here in Oz.

Tomorrow they'll start learning about housing. We'll be in the computer room for an hour and then back to the classroom. I'm looking forward to it.
