I visited a friend's (Anglican) church today, to once again catch up with him as well as hear him preach.
And he did a great job.
The Gospel reading was Luke's account of the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus [Luke 24:13-35]. He spoke very well not only on the recognition of Jesus both through the Scriptures and through the Breaking of the Bread, but also took us into the mindset of the disciples -- their sadness at their belief that the Messiah they had hoped for was no longer.
Afterwards, over coffee and biscuits, I met a number of the parishioners [a very friendly lot], including one man who had attended some of the Theological Lectures held by our diocese. A small world indeed.
After church we had lunch at Woolloomooloo, a walk along the wharf and some very nice ice-cream. A very pleasant way to spend a day!
