Today is the Fifth Sunday of Great Lent and, among many other faithful Christians throughout the ages, we remember the life of St Mary of Egypt: her story is well-worth reading -- from leaving home at age 12 to pursue a life of 'unrestrained and insatiable sensuality', to her arrival in Jerusalem and her inability to enter the church, to her repentance and her life in the desert.
