Tractor Girl has written a few blog entries on the BBC programme The Monastery. There is also a discussion on the show over at Ship of Fools. The programme was filmed at Worthy Abbey.
I do hope this makes it on television down here. It sounds like it has been a fascinating programme not only to watch, but for the participants involved [and one guy in particular.]
The monastic life is something I have considered...then dismissed...then considered...then dismissed...and considered. As an Anglican, the Benedictine Order had a great pull for me. The presence and valuing of monasticism was one of the reasons I was drawn to Orthodoxy. I'm not sure at this point in my life, and I wonder if I ever will be, as to where God wants me. I try to live each moment and make decisions based on what happens -- and aim to respond in a Christian manner to all that comes my way.
But the pull towards a monastic life seems stronger at the moment. It is a strange feeling and I am not sure I can explain it. It occupies much of my thought and it provides a measure of peace. It is also a bit daunting to consider such a life -- it is not an easy one. Yet there are many blessings. And yet many struggles. All I can do is pray, "God, your will be done."
