With SBS giving Kommissar Rex a break for several months [boo hoo!], I turned into the new series from Germany, Bronski & Bernstein. A worthy successor to Rex! It concerns a mismatched duo of detectives in Hamburg, Germany. Well, one is a detective and one an ex-law student whose father, the police commissioner, got him a job. A reasonably realistic story with some wonderfully amusing moments. I'll definitely be tuning in again.

It was then across to the ABC for David Starkey's latest series, Monarchy You may remember David Starkey from his previous documentaries The Six Wives of Henry VIII and Elizabeth. I'm finding Monarchy a very enjoyable programme and I found it very interesting to learn more about Edgar, Ethelred, Cnut [Canute] and Edward the Confessor.

Tonight's viewing concluded on a much lower note, with the documentary The Murder of Emmett Till. This concerned the horrific murder of a black 14 year-old in Mississipi after he whistled at a white woman. A trial by a jury of all white men acquitted the killers. It is sad to see the history of humanity's racism, and even a cursory look around the world today shows we often haven't learnt. Lord, have mercy!
