My life has only now a deeper meaning,
These sinful eyes have gazed
Upon this holy ground,
The land so greatly praised and deeply cherished.
I now experience what I have long since prayed for,
I have arrived where God, as man,
Has walked amongst us.Many countries mighty, rich and splendid,
Have I seen.
You shine above them all.
So many wondrous things have happened here!
That a maiden has born a child,
Lord of all the hosts of angels,
Is that not a miracle? We need not despair
For this mighty miracle
Is grander still than before.Walter von der Vogelweide (1170 - 1230)
[Walter von den Vogelweide was a Minnesänger (German troubadour), probably of aristocratic birth, who is said to have lived the life of a travelling juggler. He was amongst the most important poets and Minnesänger of his time.]Words and information from the Mediæval Bæbes CD Undrentide.
I'm listening to a great deal of the Mediæval Bæbes at the moment. The sheer simplicity of the instruments used, and the wonderful selections of songs [sacred and secular] they have on their CDs are bringing me a great amount of joy and happiness. Music is a wonderful thing.
