Winter Arrives

Just after the Winter Solstice. Snow has been falling in the west of New South Wales and at the skifields in the Snowy Mountains.

At the weather station nearest to my house, it was 9C [~ 48F] at 16:30. Today's maximum was 10.7C. I know that may not be cold for any European or American readers, but given most days have been around 18C - 20C [~ 64.5F - 68F] lately, that's quite a dip.

But I love the cold. And it's always easy to put on more clothes, or gloves and a scarf. If it's hot and humid, there's a limit to how many clothes you can take off before people complain.

[By the way, the Bureau of Meterology has these some very funky maps for observations. Click here for NSW temperatures [I believe each state has its own map] and click here for a selection of clickable radar images around Australia. Great stuff!]
