Through being on my local ABC radio's e-mail list, I scored a free ticket to a preview of the new Aussie film Oyster Farmer. I greatly enjoyed this movie.
The film is set along the Hawkesbury River, a very scenic area around 60 kilometres north of Sydney. The beautiful river [which is unfortunatey suffering from noxious weeds further inland] and surrounds form a wonderful backdrop to the movie, and often steal the scenes. Wonderful acting from all, especially Kerry Armstrong -- one of my favourite Australian actresses -- and newcomers Alex O'Lachlan and Diana Glenn. Plenty of quirky characters, especially the old Irishman "Mumbles". I also enjoyed the portrayal of the community of the oyster farmers and the Vietnam veterans who have formed their own isolated community along the river.
I thought it the kind of movie where you could just sit back and enjoy the ride. There was an interesting sex scene on a pier -- as a reviewer I heard on Tuesday said, 'What about the splinters?!" I found the story a bit shaky at the beginning, but altogether very entertaining and very satisfying.
