Hold music. It is often very poor.
And the constant, "You are important to us..."
But help may be at hand -- at least with the hold music. I was listening to NPR's All Things Considered programme last night. The final story was Hold, Please -- And Enjoy the Music. The American Music Center commissioned six composers, ranging in age from their 20s to 80s, to write original compositions of between one and two minutes for their phone system. Very interesting (and very different) pieces and worth a listen. I'd be a bit more happier to listen to these than muzak.
