Volcanic eruption causes Australian island to grow.
God's creation is truly fascinating, and seeing it in action is equally amazing. Just over a month ago one of the Twelve Apostles collapsed, and today we have news that an island in the sub-Antarctic has doubled in size due to recent volcanic activity. Nothing dramatic, but rather something akin to "a gentle squeezing of the toothpaste tube, where the toothpaste is coming out of the top and running down the side." (Professor Michael Stoddart, Chief Scientist with the Australian Antarctic program). It is believed that the increase in size will lead to more wildlife making this island, some 4,000 kilometres south-west of Western Australia, home.
It was also instructive to me that Australian territories do have active volcanoes: there is another at Heard Island, around 44 kilometres from McDonald Island. I knew the continent had no active volcanoes: I was not aware ny territories owned by us did either.
