This working week has been a rather hectic one. I'm rather glad it's over.

We've been introducing MS Access applications to various sections of our office with the aim of helping make people's lives a bit easier: and I've been pleasantly surprised with how well they've been received. And it has been a nice change from the day-to-day work I do. So far I've coded 5 applications for 4 divisions, and several of them have undergone significant addition and modification as my colleagues use them and discover they need "X" or do not really need "Y". This week has been particularly heavy on the additions, and I've probably put more stress on myself than anyone else has to get it all done ASAP: I'm my own worst enemy.

But, as I wrote, it has been good to see how well they've been received. Thanks be to a new recruit who suggested the idea (sometimes you need a fresh perspective to see what can be improved) and has helped to design it. It's good to see computer applications actually helping people rather than getting them more and more frustrated.

On the topic of frustration, I've had a bit of it with the company who supports our database and another application. They've been very lazy in responding to requests for changes and for information on why the system is slowly grinding to a halt [one process has jumped from 15 mins to 6+ hours!] Add to this the fact they told me something wasn't possible when it was [I coded it myself to check], and I haven't been the most loving person this week in my attitude toward them. I do not mind if people say they are having trouble doing something -- we are all at different levels and we are always in need of help to learn new things -- but when I know something is possible and I know they'd rather rush in a quick-fix solution than take time and do it properly, I get a tad upset. Especially given the money our company's paying them!

But Friday evening is here and the weekend awaits! Thanks be to God!
