On the topic of food...

I've once again been reminded how much English varies between us and our brothers and sisters in the USA.

Alana at Morning Coffee posted about biscuits: and those biscuits are like none I've ever seen before! Wikipedia has an article explaining the differences on this particular word, and a rather interesting page on American and British English.

Alana asked about particularly Australian food. I can't think of any meals that are particularly Aussie: we seem to take from others and add our own things. But we have our fair share of sweet and savoury items. Wikipedia lists a few under Australian cuisine (yes, cuisine!)

PavlovaThe Pavlova (photo of a rather extravagant (and NZ!) one on left) is one of my favourite desserts, though the New Zealanders wish to claim it for their own. Damper (photo) is always great to tuck into when camping. Then you've got ANZAC biscuits, Vanilla Slices, Lamingtons, and so on... Yum!
