On this blog of mine, Philippa asked about the brightness of the domes. Having no idea, I started a thread on Ship of Fools.
Many fine responses were posted. A particularly interesting post was shipmate Alt Wally's providing this wonderful link (may be a bit slow to load) which explains the significance of not on the colours, but the number of domes and their shapes as well. Nothing in Orthodoxy is without reason or symbolism.
