Clinical Pastoral Visitation Course: Week IV

The most moving of the weeks thus far.

We looked at a verbatim (record of a visit) that was deeply, deeply moving. Tears were welling in my eyes as it was being read. That gives an indication of how emotional it was. I'm an emotional person generally, but this got to me more than I would've thought. It hit me how tough, how very tough, this ministry will be emotionally: I knew emotions would be involved, but yesterday the picture got a whole lot clearer.

But emotions are not something to hide from: tears especially are not something to be stopped. They can be very healing. And tears (and other expressions of emotions) are a natural part of any relationship. And that is why I am interested in doing this ministry: to form relationships with people: to care for people: more than that, though: to love people. And to love them in a practical manner.

It is going to be hard. Extremely hard at times perhaps. May God give me the strength, and may God guide and guard my words and actions.
