At last, something I want to blog about that's positive. On Saturday we started running a storytelling group for the community near where we live. I claim no credit for this idea, which has proved fantastic - a way of giving local people something they actually want, not preaching to them, and getting them into our building and finding out we aren't scary.
Over 50 people turned up, which packed out the place, and they were so lovely and the atmosphere was fantastic - it was really great to see people beginning to be confident speaking in public, telling their own stories and listening to a friend of mine who is amazing on such things tell a story about a tiger's whisker that was just brilliant.
It struck me that this is exactly what we have been trying to do for ages - actually giving people something they want - and I loved meeting all of them.
The rest of the weekend was mad - cooking large sunday lunch, leading communion and seeing friends. It was good to feel I was back in the land of the living, not in the nasty world of work strip lights and hospitals.
We also spent yesterday evening praying with a friend of ours, which was very, very humbling. I doubt I have ever been as open or confessional with anyone (except my husband) as he was with us last night. It made me realise how much too much I value my dignity - which isn't something God particularly wants people to hold onto, I guess.
