Balrogcita

This is what my husband calls me when I'm in a bad mood - meaning, for any non-Spanish speakers/non Tolkien fans, a little version of a large fiery demon. So today is a Balrogcita day - don't expect me to be rational. I've just finished a 1500 word profile article, and an "ideas meeting" with my editor, and neither of them have improved the poor mood I woke up in.

We once had to fill in a "spiritual gifts questionnaire" at housegroup - which, I kid you not, asked if you had ever raised anyone from the dead (for the record, I haven't... although anyone who has ever seen me in the morning might think my later appearance at work is a miracle) According to that, I have the gifts of hospitality and service (if that's true, then both are usually prefaced with the word "grudging"). People often tell me, though, that I have the gift of "discernment" - which I reckon is just a polite way of saying i am an awkward wotsit who asks difficult questions. Of course I do - that's my job. It was interesting to hear Dave Tomlinson at Greenbelt (the speaking in tongues seminar) although I did fall asleep in the middle of it because it was sunny for the first time in days. He said at one point that maybe what people call spiritual gifts are just extensions of our normal personalities - which would explain the "discernment" thing - I guess. Journalist = awkward cuss, obviously.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I'm not a very nice person sometimes, and I probably need to sleep for a week. And spend some time with God when I'm actually listening to him and being obedient, rather than just doing the spiritual equivalent of kicking all the lampposts on the way up his garden path.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
(sorry, I just ain't a sweetness and light kind of gal).

And another person has found my blog by googling "pictures of turnips". Are you all doing this to confuse me, or do you genuinely all want pictures of root vegetables. Perhaps I should start a root vegetable website
