And in my absence precious few things appear to have happened. But, I am pleased to report that the row over the tea rota appears to have resolved itself - it was proving slightly more stressful than the daily newspaper deadlines, so I'm glad. Also we have a brand new health and safety board - it's blue and very exciting. We are not allowed to put anything on it that isn't a health and safety notice. I'm thinking of putting something on it that just says "Be Careful" and "Don't Run With Scissors". That should cover all the bases.
Was reading about Elisha this morning - the story of Naaman being cured of his leprosy. I used to have a picture book about this when I was a kid (it distinctly glossed over what someone leprous actually looked like, which was disappointing, at the time) but I'd forgotten all about it. It was good to remember the role of the slave girl, who had been ripped away from everything she cared about to serve this family, and was still brave enough and compassionate enough to speak up about Elisha's healing powers and ultimately save his life (Naaman's, not Elisha's)
She was only a small part in someone else's story - and I don't even remember her having a name. But maybe we can all do that sometimes, which is heartening. A walk-on part in someone else's great story of faith is definitely good enough for me.
And apropos of nothing, when I was blogging about spiritual gifts the other day I was in too bad a mood to tell you all that I had managed to leave out the "F" in gifts the first time I typed it. Spiritual g*ts, anybody? I definitely know some of those - although I think I fall into the unspiritual category.
