black tie

Dressing in black tie (well, obviously the female equivalent of it) used to be fun, but now it is nearly always work. I have the most beautiful red dress that my husband bought me as a wedding present (have to stop myself referring to it as my 'wedding dress' because it confuses people), which is perfect for work dos because it is a) beautiful b) not remotely revealing and c) says Size Ten in it quite prominently, when most of my clothes are twelves, so is eminently suitable for hanging in the ladies loos!
Last night I was at a big work dinner which was actually rather fun, but it would be nice to dress up for more exciting occasions, and to be with husband and friends instead of with work. Also, I have to get changed in our Ladies loos (always full of people changing into Black Tie for evening dos) in about five minutes flat. Faffing round the office in a long dress and a pashmina going on about Astrazeneca is a bit of a weird thing to do, and my husband only got to see me all dressed up when I got home, switched the light on and woke him up.

Also, I am very bad at wearing a pashmina. According to a dear friend and colleague who was rearranging it for me yesterday I was wearing it like a victim of a disaster might wear a blanket. I always think I look a little like that picture of the White Queen in Alice in Wonderland, and everyone else always looks so poised. Never mind.
