Saved!

We watched "Saved!" on Friday night, which comes highly recommended to anyone who has ever been involved with Christian youth (or, in fact, has ever been a Christian youth). Produced, surreally enough by REM's Michael Stipe, it is set in a Christian high school, where, bizarrely, it is considered cool to be Christian. The film loosely follows what happens when the frailty of human mistakes hit the (ultra-conservative) mores of young evangelical Christians.
That makes it sound really serious, but it isn't. I laughed, when I wasn't cringing. Great lines included "I've been born-again my whole life", and the headmaster asking everyone if they were feeling, "like, totally Jesus-centric". Obviously, my own youth wasn't much like this, since it certainly isn't cool to be Christian at most british high schools, but it did remind me a little bit of our youth group (where you got two free snogs, but one of them had to be Graham).

I think I'd recommend it.

We're just planning our next Alt Worship service, on the theme of the Prodigal Son. If anyone's got any ideas (other than introducing any live pigs to the prayer room!), I'd love to hear them.
