When I was a kid, I often used to call my teachers "Mum" by mistake. It was one of the most embarassing things you could do. Sometimes, actually, the teacher was my Mum... but I still had to call her Mrs X. My poor brother got particularly confused by the schizophrenia of this, and occasionally took to calling my Mum "Auntie Carol" at school and Mum at home (because Auntie Carol was the only other thing he had heard my Mum being called).
I guess all this history is why I had to suppress a giggle in the middle of (quite a heavy) prayer session yesterday when the chap I was praying with suddenly addressed God with the name of his wife. I'm sure Freudian psychologists would have a field day with that, but I think it really was just a slip of the tongue. Was quite funny though. He was nearly as embarassed as I used to be at primary school.
